What does this all mean?

50MB web space (50 million bytes, more or less) is enough space to store the text of the bible 50 times! It's a lot of space unless you start filling it with memory hungry pictures and video. 50 MB should be more than enough for any small to medium sized web site. Extra space is available for an extra charge.

500MB transfer per month (500 MegaBytes) is the total amount of data you are allowed to upload / download per month. Again, it is plenty for a small to medium sized web site that is not using webcams or video streaming. These byte hungry activities may need extra bandwidth, depending on the web site popularity. Extra bandwidth is available for an extra charge.

What is included?

email

email is included in the above prices. A web based administration tool "qmailadmin" is yours to configure as many pop and imap accounts as you wish. Also included, is a mailing list manager and total control over autoresponders and forwarding. Your outgoing mail should be handled by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) but an outgoing mail server is available to you on request.

server access

Maintaining your web is usually achieved using ftp. You will be given a login in order to update your web space.

server scripting

php is permanently enabled. The php hypertext preprocessor is easy and powerful, specifically written for the web and Apache servers. Also available on request, is Perl and a cgi directory. Perl is the thoroughbred of scripting languages, although sometimes a little overboard except for the most extreme uses.

database

A Mysql database server is always running. Access to a database can be given to you on request. This used alongside php takes your web into another dimension.

server statistics

A graphical statistics package is included called Webalizer. This analyses your log files and gives current statistics on your web site. An example of its display is available here

technical support

We can give you a limited amount of technical support for free, though if you really are out of your depth, then we can take on your challenges at an agreed rate. Email help is swiftly dealt with.

What is not included?

We do not support Microsoft FrontPage server extensions. These are Microsoft specific and do not install on a Linux machine (the host server) very cleanly. Server reliability and security are of paramount importance to us.

Telnet access is not available. If interactive access is required then ssh (secure shell) may be available on request.

Not allowed

You may use the system as you see fit as long as you stay within the boundaries of UK & US law and Net Etiquette. Please read the general terms page. In effect:

• No IRC bots
